MALVERN, PA – Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions, a leading developer and operator of infrastructure projects for the college and university market, announced, in partnership with Axium Infrastructure, that they have received a financial close on a mixed-use student housing project for Vanderbilt University. The 616 bed development, which will be provided through a public-private partnership (P3), will advance the university's mission to provide doctoral and professional students with modern, affordable housing near the campus core with shared curricula, which help them build community and foster interdisciplinary connections.
The new residential complex, which will lay its foundation stone this spring and open in August 2023, is located on Broadway between Lyle Avenue and 20th Avenue. The campus and other key points in the Midtown area are within easy walking distance.
“We are excited to start the graduate and professional residential development project. We believe the construction of this building will further advance our goal of recruiting and retaining exceptional PhD students who will later become leaders in their fields, ”said Mike Perez, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Chief Facility Officer.
The development will include apartment-style units in a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom floor plans. The furnished apartments are completely "turnkey" with kitchens and washer / dryer. Utilities will be included.
The development also includes a unique “Co-Lab” collaboration space spanning more than 13,000 square feet, providing graduates and professional students with a dedicated area for academic and entrepreneurial endeavors with additional group and private study rooms throughout the property. Additional amenities include a fitness center, public courtyard, and 25,000 square feet of retail space for the wider Vanderbilt and Nashville communities.
The contractor for the project is JE Dunn Construction's Nashville office and the lead architect is Valerio Dewalt Train of Chicago. After completion, the community will be administered and operated by Balfour Beatty Communities.
"We are excited to help Vanderbilt University graduates and professional students provide world-class housing," said Bob Shepko, President of Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions. "Providing updated housing with modern amenities in a vibrant neighborhood near campus will advance the university's goal of recruiting the best graduates and professional students and providing them with an exceptional experience."
