Lawsuits filed on behalf of consumers fell in 2020, despite the COVID-19 pandemic leading to new filings, according to a new research report from Lex Machina.
Lex Machina's Consumer Protection Dispute Report 2021, released Thursday, found that consumer filings in federal courts, including those filed by the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, decreased from 14,432 between 2019 and 2020 to 12,922 cases in class actions that decreased from 3,811 in 2019 to 3,215 last year.
