$three.5 Million Houses in California

$3.5 Million Homes in California

Charles Du Bois, a New York-born architect who graduated from U.C.L.A. and M.I.T., worked extensively in Southern California during the mid-20th century, building homes in the San Fernando Valley and Palm Springs. This and several others became known as the Swiss Miss Houses due to their A-frame structure, reminiscent of an Alpine chalet.

The house is located in the Vista Las Palmas neighborhood, less than half a mile from the properties that once belonged to Dean Martin, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. Downtown Palm Springs, with its shopping and dining, is less than 2 miles or 10 minutes' drive away.

Size: 2,417 square feet

Price per square meter: $ 1,448

Inside: A path leads through the front garden, which is planted with gravel and palm trees, to the front door, which is located in the middle of the A-frame facade. Behind a frosted glass door, a foyer extends to a living room, which is dominated by floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a swimming pool and the rugged mountain landscape. In the middle of the opposite wall is a rock chimney that extends to the ceiling.

To the right of the living room is an open dining and kitchen area with a starburst lamp, kitchen cabinets with different types of wood in a herringbone pattern and a gray and white tile back wall.

A hallway from the living room leads to three of the four bedrooms in the house. Immediately to the left is a guest room with a dotted accent wall. At the end of the hall is the master suite with sliding glass doors that open to the back yard and a bathroom with a herringbone vanity that is reminiscent of the kitchen cabinets. Opposite the main suite is another guest room and next door is a bathroom with a tiled walk-in shower.

The fourth bedroom is off the foyer; It has a private bathroom with a walk-in shower.

Outside space: A small terrace in front of the house offers space for two chairs and a small table. The back yard has several different rooms: a sitting area in front of an outside fireplace; a built-in grill next to a deck with space for lounge chairs; and a lawn that is big enough for bocce ball. In the middle of the back yard is a swimming pool with a separate spa. Sufficient parking spaces are available in an attached carport and in the large driveway.

This house was originally part of the neighboring property. It's a smaller version of its neighbor and was designed for the mother-in-law of the owner of the property. The road it is on is quiet, with expansive hill views and easy access to the sea. Summerland Beach, popular with families and surfers, is five minutes away by car. Nearby businesses include an 1890s Victorian restaurant, winery, and antique shop.

Downtown Santa Barbara is 10-15 minutes away and the University of California, Santa Barbara is a 20-minute drive away.
