Charles Du Bois, a New York-born architect who graduated from U.C.L.A. and M.I.T., worked extensively in Southern California during the mid-20th century, building homes in the San Fernando Valley and Palm Springs. This and several others became known as the Swiss Miss Houses due to their A-frame structure, reminiscent of an Alpine chalet.
