Miami trial attorneys expressed frustration when their courthouse closed in July – reopened right after the courts were removed during the pandemic. The shutdown followed a report from an engineer finding safety concerns on different floors of the 28-story historic building.

The inspection by the general contractor and engineering office U.S. Structures Inc. of South Florida found visible signs of concrete spalling and cracking in some of the overhead joists and ceilings, corrosion on steel column members, and a water leak that seeped through an existing joist on the third floor.
