Bankruptcy Judge Plans to Appoint Ken Feinberg to Estimate Talc Claims

A New Jersey bankruptcy judge said on Thursday that he planned to bring in Ken Feinberg to estimate the amount and value of talcum powder claims against Johnson & Johnson.

Chief Bankruptcy Judge Michael Kaplan announced the decision after ruling in favor of Johnson & Johnson subsidiary LTL Management on how to proceed with its Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which aims to resolve at least 38,000 lawsuits filed by ovarian cancer and mesothelioma victims. LTL Management had proposed a so-called estimation hearing to provide an aggregate value of the talc claims, a process that the Official Committee of Talc Claimants had countered was a “road to nowhere.”
