Not Too Sweet: Products Lawsuit Against Hershey’s Candy Can Continue

A lawsuit against chocolate manufacturer The Hershey’s Co. alleging that an ingredient in its black licorice candies causes heart issues and other medical problems will continue in Pennsylvania federal court, a judge ruled.

Plaintiffs Jane Lavoie-Fern, Sherry Konwaler, Harvey Horowitz, and Marie Bruen allege that glycyrrhizin, a sweetening compound from licorice roots found in Hershey’s black licorice Twizzlers and Good & Plenty candies, resulted in various health issues after they consumed the black licorice candies.
